About this book
Sixty real bridges of Japan — the crossings themselves, each one ready to color.
Other coloring books give you invented spans over generic rivers. This book colors Japan's real crossings, in their real views: the white suspension towers of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge over the tide-raced Inland Sea, the red steel arch of Eitai Bridge over the Sumida, the wooden Horaibashi — among the longest wooden walking bridges in the world — the loop spiral of Kawazu climbing its gorge, the railing-less sinking bridges of the Shimanto River that the floods are allowed to take, and the long turquoise island roads of Okinawa, where the bridge is the whole journey.
Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color guide — a photograph of the bridge today — with a short story of the crossing (the strait, river or gorge it crosses, how it was built, what it joined and changed, and exactly how to color it); on the other side, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the scene you color is the scene itself.
Inside you will find: • The strait giants — Kurushima Kaikyo, Tatara, Onaruto, Kanmon and the island-hopping spans of the Shimanami Kaido • Tokyo's river crossings — Eitai, Kiyosu, Azuma and Kachidoki over the Sumida, the Rainbow Bridge and the Tokyo Gate Bridge over the bay • Wooden and stone survivals — Horaibashi, Uji Bridge, the Shimanto sinking bridges, and Kanazawa's Ume no Hashi • Mountain and gorge spans — Ryujin and Kinu Tateiwa suspension bridges, the Kawazu loop, Kokonoe's great pedestrian span • The lake and bay crossings — Biwako Ohashi and Omi Ohashi over Lake Biwa, Yokohama Bay Bridge, Tsurumi Tsubasa • Okinawa's island roads — Kouri, Irabu, Ikema and Kurima, where the sea is the picture • 60 full-color guides with the story of each crossing (80–108 words each) • None of these sixty bridges appeared in our previous Japan coloring books
Sixty crossings that straits, rivers, gorges and history made necessary — bring pencils, and take your time.
