About this book

YOUR WORK JAPANESE WORKS. NOW YOUR FREE TIME CAN TOO: 300 EXPRESSIONS FOR HOBBIES, SPORTS AND FREE TIME, 12 DOCUMENTS OF PLAY, 12 WRITING TASKS.

Finished Vol.1 through Vol.18? Your Japanese works on paper, on screen, on the road — and under the open sky. But the hours that make friends are still ahead of you: the first talk about hobbies, the match you cheer to the end, the small progress you report to your teacher, the weekend you plan on Friday night. This is the volume that teaches the Japanese of free time itself, and makes you write with it.

Inside: 300 practical expressions in 20 groups organised by scene — talking about hobbies, watching sports, playing sports, running swimming and cycling, exercise and fitness, music, karaoke, movies dramas and streaming, reading, games, making things, drawing painting calligraphy and photography, fishing, collecting, fans and favourites, theatre and live events, clubs and circles, lessons and getting better, weekends and days off, and spending on gear and tickets. Every expression comes with its reading, romaji, meaning, a short usage note — the scene, the person it suits, the level of politeness, the trap to avoid — three natural example sentences in Japanese and English, and a practice space for three sentences of your own: your hobby, your match, your circle.

Plus 12 graded writing tasks in three stages — short notes (telling someone about your hobby, inviting a friend to a film, inviting someone to cheer at a match, applying to visit a circle), situation pieces (how you spend your weekends, progress told to a teacher, your collection introduced, a fishing arrangement with a friend), then full compositions (my hobby, a day of a match I can never forget, starting a new hobby, a letter about the value of free time) — each with a model answer that really uses this volume's expressions, a self-check list and a full writing grid.

Plus 12 readings of real document genres — a sports festival guide, a sports club joining guide, a concert programme, library and reading-circle news, karaoke prices, a marathon entrants' notice, a hobby circle recruiting notice, an exhibition guide, fishing pond rules, cinema screenings and seats, a craft class application guide and a culture festival programme — each with a full translation, five key words and three questions.

All 300 expressions and all 12 readings are entirely new, with zero overlap against Vol.1–Vol.18 (checked programmatically against all 7,500 earlier headwords and 216 earlier reading titles, no exceptions; every Japanese field passed a character-set scan). The series now trains 4,200 words, 300 sentence patterns, 3,300 practical expressions and 228 readings.
