About this book
Color your way through the farming heart of Japan — all sixty places real.
This book gathers sixty Japanese rice-terrace and mountain-village landscapes and nothing else: the patchwork hills of Biei; the moon-reflecting terraces of Obasute; a hamlet called the village in the sky, clinging to a mountainside in Nagano; the steep thatched roofs of Gokayama; the island-shaped paddies of Aragijima; terraces that catch the sunset over the sea at Hamanoura; and the forest villages of Yanbaru in Okinawa — from Hokkaido's farm basins to the southern islands.
Every place appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color photo guide with a short, fascinating story — including what to look for while you color — and on the other, a detailed coloring page of the very same view. A guide at the front shows you how to print only the coloring pages at home and save your color ink.
Inside you will find: • Great terraced landscapes — Hoshitoge, Oyama Senmaida, Maruyama Senmaida, Ini, Tsuzura and the Kasuga terraces of Hirado • Thatched-roof hamlets — Gokayama Ainokura, Tono's farm village, Hattoji and the snow-country settlement of Hijiori • Old post towns on the mountain roads — Ouchi-juku, Magome-juku, Narai-juku and Kumagawa-juku • Mountain villages — Shimoguri the sky village, Akiyamago, Shiiba, and the Yanbaru forest villages of Ogimi and Kunigami • 60 full-color photo guides with the story of each valley (about 80–120 words each) • None of these sixty places appeared in our previous Japan coloring books
Sixty valleys, one slow journey — bring pencils, not hiking boots.
