About this book
Sixty real Japanese rivers and valleys — and every one of them ready to color.
This book follows Japan's water from the mountains to the sea: the blue-green current of the Biei River under Hokkaido's hills; the great snow-country flows of the Shinano (Chikuma) and Tone; the three wildest rapids in the country — the Fuji, the Kuma and the Mogami, where boatmen once shot the white water with passengers aboard; the gorge cut through columnar rock at Takachiho; clear limestone streams in Shikoku crossed by low sink-and-rise bridges that dip beneath the flood; and at the journey's end, the mangrove mouth of the Hija River in Okinawa.
Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color photo guide with a short, fascinating story — how the river carved its gorge, where its name comes from, and what to look for while you color — and on the other, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the river you color is the river itself. A guide at the front shows you how to print only the coloring pages at home and save your color ink.
Inside you will find: • Hokkaido and Tohoku — the Biei and Tokachi rivers, the Mogami Gorge boat descent and Rairaikyo Gorge • Kanto and Chubu — the Kinugawa and Watarase gorges, the Kiso and Nagara rivers, Shogawa Gorge and Sunmata Gorge • Kansai and Chugoku — the Katsura and Kumano rivers, the Hii and Takahashi flows • Shikoku and Kyushu — the Niyodo's famous blue, the Yoshino and Shimanto country tributaries, the Kuma rapids and Takachiho Gorge • 60 full-color photo guides with the story of each river (about 80–120 words each) • None of these sixty subjects appeared in our previous Japan coloring books
Sixty rivers, one long journey from the snow country to the southern sea — bring pencils, and take your time.
